When we hear the word steroids, body building, players, sports heroes usually pop in our mind. The most recent and controversial of them all is the accusation that Manny Pacquiao, the world renowned boxer, is using steroids to his advantage to be stronger while fighting with his opponents in the ring. But what we often neglect that steroids have its many other beneficial uses. There are natural steroids that are found in the human body and also there are also steroids for sale which are chemical compounds or drugs.

Oftentimes steroids are used by medical practitioners to treat different illnesses. An example of this is for asthma. As a child, my sister already has asthma. It is triggered by dust and pet dander that is why we never experienced having a pet at home. My sister never gets to play any game that requires much physical activity. It was a sad thing for a child. Another precipitating factor to acquiring this disease is our familial history. She was the only one amongst the three us who inherited this illness from my mother and grandfather. I grew up seeing her being troubled by her condition. I really get panicky whenever I see her gasping for air. She uses inhaled steroids as her medication to control her attacks. Whenever she feels the impending attack she already grabs what we call her puffing machine to hinder the aggravation of her labored breathing. The use of the steroid is to reduce swelling so that there would be enough airway passage to allow normal breathing. It also decreases the sensitivity to prevent attacks. Steroids improve the quality of her life. With the medication and preventions, she now enjoys the usual activities that normal healthy people do provided that she does it with moderation and by religiously taking her medication.
